One of the scariest things for a child is having to go to the dreaded doctor. But when one is sick they must go. Of course Little Golden Books put out a bunch of books that are designed partly to ease children's worries. The thing to note of course is that the early books reflect a time when only men were doctors and women were nurses. Were you a kid that hated going to the doctor?
Confession time! Halloween is my all time favorite holiday. Not just cause it falls a few days after my Birthday. I love the fall and I love spookiness and I love how excited the kids get when Halloween rolls around. So here are some Little Golden Books perfect for when that time of the year rolls around. My stepdaughter used to own the Scooby Doo one and would beg us constantly to read it to her. Is Halloween one of your favorite hoildays?
As I stated before I'm agnostic (I don't judge those who are religious). But there is no denying that religion plays a large roll in Little Golden Books. So while I could have gone with another theme it didn't seem right to skip this one. I can't say that I have read or owned any of these but I know that some were very popular. My boss at my very first job was a fan of elephants. She collected miniature figurines of them and placed them all around her office. The wooden ones someone brought her back from India were my favorite. Here are some covers featuring elephants. My favorite is the groovy Elephant on Wheels.
There is perhaps no other more dominate theme in Little Golden Books than Disney. From the princesses to Mickey to Donald and right down to Buzz Lightyear you can find a Disney book for EVERY movie, tv show, character etc that Disney has made...ok maybe not every but certainly most of the popular ones. I decided not to feature any of the modern ones and went with the classic Disney books I owned as a child. Did you own any of these?

It makes perfect sense that throughout its history Little Golden Books has featured Babies as its main subject for many many...MANY of its books. After all babies and toddlers are the main audience for these books. I believe that I had the Where did the Baby Go? book as a child. Do you remember any of these?
In 1942 the first Little Golden books were published. There were only 12 but over the years well over 1200 different books have been published. A popular theme over the years are ones featuring the ABCs. Some covers for the same book changed with different editions. Here are a few classic covers that I came across and fell in love with.
